679. Signs of the Son of David

“The son of David [Messiah] does not come until all pennies have run out from the pocket” (Sanhedrin 97a). A “pocket” means the Kelim [vessels] where man’s energy is placed, meaning that he has done all that he could, and then he will be rewarded with redemption.

The son of David does not come until they give up on redemption, as was said, “And none is stopped and abandoned,” as though there is no supporter or helper to Israel.

Rabbi Hanina said, “The son of David does not come until a fish is sought after for a sick man, but it will not be found” (Sanhedrin 98a). Dag [fish] comes from De’agah [concern/worry] (as it is written, “And the fish that was in the Nile died”).
