59. Anyone Who Is Angry, It Is as though He Commits Idol-Worship
“Anyone who is angry, it is as though he commits idol-worship,” since in all the transgressions, there is only one transgression: lust. However, there is no pride in them because one is not proud about one’s inability to overcome lust.
This is not so with anger. Besides enjoying the lust of anger, he also takes pride in being angry, for he knows that justice is on his side. Otherwise, he would not be able to take pride.
It follows that there are two transgressions here: 1) lust, which he enjoys, 2) taking pride, and “Anyone who is proud, he and I cannot dwell in the same abode and his soul departs” (The Zohar, Tetzaveh, Item 55).
