Zohar for All, Volume 10

Joseph Was Given of His Own

27. Joseph was given of his own. The mouth that did not kiss the transgression, the wife of Potiphar, was rewarded with the verse, “All my people shall be ruled according to your mouth [word],” since by this, he became a Merkava [chariot/structure] for Yesod of ZA. Hence, the whole world is nourished by Yesod of ZA, and souls fly to each person, since the souls are extended from Yesod and from Malchut.

28. “The neck that did not bend itself to a transgression was rewarded with the verse, “And put the gold chain around his neck,” since by this he became a Merkava for Yesod of ZA, where the six degrees above it, Bina, HGT NH of ZA, all draw for him good extension from holy Atik, from Keter.

29. The gold that is written, the gold chain, is fourteen in Gematria [in Hebrew], for each of the seven degrees Bina HGT NH consists of mercy and judgment. Hence, they are two times seven, which is fourteen, which is gold [in Gematria].

We learn that a Sukkah [hut] that is higher than twenty cubits is flawed, meaning above ZA, in whom there are ten Sefirot. Because each one consists of mercy and of judgment, they are twenty. If the Sukkah is higher than twenty, we have no attainment since there is no attainment above ZA. And if it is under ten, it is flawed because they do not contain mercy and judgment.

30. The body that did not bow itself to a transgression was rewarded with the verse, “And he clothed him in garments of fine linen,” which is the Vav in the holy name HaVaYaH, which is six in Gematria.

The feet that did not go to a transgression were rewarded with the verse, “And he had him ride in the second chariot,” since there is an upper Merkava [chariot/structure] of Bina, and there is a lower Merkava, of Malchut, and Joseph was rewarded with both since he kept the covenant of holiness.
