And He Shall Take a Wife in Her Virginity
29. It is written, “Now he has charged her with shameful conduct, saying, ‘I found your daughter was not a virgin,’” “and they shall fine him one hundred shekels of silver and give them to the father of the young woman, because he has brought a bad name on a virgin of Israel.” But is she a virgin of Israel? She is a virgin of her father or of her husband; what is “the virgin of Israel”? It means a virgin daughter of Jacob, who was called Israel, and what happened, happened. Since the verse speaks of giving a bad name, he mentions the virgin of Israel, as it happened to Dina, the daughter of Israel. Here, too, the priest who stands as it is above, it is written about him, “And he shall take a woman in her virginity,” who has never gone outside her yard’s gate. He compares her virginity to the virgin of Israel, so that no exit outside will occur to her, as it happened to the virgin of Israel.
