A Coupling on Passover Night
132. On the night of the fourteenth, at the time of the coupling of the moon, Malchut is in wholeness with the sun, ZA, and the lower Sefirot of the shells are not so present in the world since during the renewal of the moon, bad kinds are present and awaken to spread in the world. But when the coupling of the moon is wholly in the light of the sun, all the shells gather in one place and hide, and the sanctity of the king awakens. Then it is as it is written, “A night of watching unto the Lord,” since the holy coupling is present and kept in everything.
133. For this reason, the correction of the bride, Malchut, is on the fourteenth day. And on the night of the fifteenth is the populating of the house, the coupling of ZON. Woe unto those who are not from the household, who do not adhere to Malchut when the laws [Torahs] come to make a coupling together—the written Torah, ZA, and the oral Torah, Malchut. Woe unto those who are not known to them. For this reason, the holy Israel, ZON, establish for them a house, meaning a coupling, through the whole of the fourteenth day. And through them, the Mochin that need the coupling of ZON enter, ZON are happy, and they both sing. Happy are Israel in this world and in the next world.
134. On that night, a high and holy coupling awakens. It is written, “This night is a night of watching unto the Lord, for all the children of Israel throughout their generations.” “Watching,” a coupling of the moon and the sun, Malchut and ZA. “For all the children of Israel throughout their generations,” that henceforth, Israel are united and tied in the connection of the holy name, and have come out of the other authority. For this reason, they correct themselves on the fourteenth day, uproot the leaven from among them, and enter the domain of holiness. Then the groom and bride, ZA and Malchut, are crowned with the crowns of upper Ima, Bina, and one must see oneself as free, since the Mochin of upper Ima is called freedom.
The renewal of the moon indicates the diminution of the moon, Malchut. At that time, there is a grip to the shells in her, which continues until the time of the great coupling, when Malchut makes a coupling with the sun face-to-face, until the diminution in her is not apparent. This indicates the wholeness of the moon on the night of the fifteenth of the month, when there is no flaw in her. When the coupling of the moon is in the light of the sun in completeness, all the shells gather into one place and hide, and the Kedushot [pl. of Kedusha (holiness)] of the king awaken. At that time, it is written, “a night of watching for the Lord,” meaning that there is a coupling of ZA and Malchut on Passover night in utter wholeness until there is no diminution in her. This is so only when Malchut ascends to upper Ima, and ZA to upper Abba, but there is none like it in all the good days, even during the day. We learn this from the Torah calling the night of the fifteenth of Nissan, “a night of watching,” indicating that Malchut is in her full, like the moon on the night of the fifteenth, and kept from all the shells due to the great coupling of ZON in the place of AVI.
The great coupling of ZON on Passover night is because the Torah commanded cessation of sourdough and offering of the Passover sacrifice on the fourteenth day. We find no such thing on any eve of a good day. Hence, this means that it is a preparation for the coupling at night. For this reason, the correction of the bride, Malchut, is on the fourteenth day, when Malchut is prepared and corrected by cessation of the sourdough and the making of the Passover because on the night of the fifteenth, on Passover night, there is the population of the house, the coupling of ZON, and there is no other high coupling such as on the night of Passover, when Malchut rises to upper Ima and ZA to upper Abba.
