Zohar for All, Volume 7

At the Time of the Messiah King

501. It is written, “I will see Him, but not now; I will behold Him, but not near; a star shall come out of Jacob; a scepter shall rise out of Israel, and batter the brow of Moab.” These words, some of them came true at that time, and some of them after some time, at the time of the Messiah King. The Creator is destined to build Jerusalem, and to show one constant star that glitters in seventy running stars and in seventy winds that shine from it in the middle of the firmament. Seventy other stars will be commanded an led by it, and it will be shining and blazing seventy days.

502. On the sixth day, on the twenty-fifth of the sixth month, the star will be visible. It will fade on the seventh day at the end of the seventy days; it will be covered and will not be visible. On the first day, it will be seen in the city of Rome. On that day, three upper walls from the city of Rome will fall, the great hall that is there shall fall, and the governor of that city shall die. Then that star will expand and become visible in the world. At that time, strong wars will awaken in the world, on all four sides, and there will be no faith among them.

503. In the middle of the world, when that star shines in the middle of the firmament, a great king will rise and rule the world, whose spirit will be proud over all the kings, and he will stir up war in two sides, and will overcome them.

504. On the day when the star is covered, the holy land will be shaken forty-five miles around the place of the Temple, and one underground cave will be revealed. From that cave, a strong fire will emerge, to burn the world, and a great and high branch will grow out of that cave, which will rule over the whole world, and the kingship will be given to it. High holy ones will gather to it, and then the Messiah will be revealed throughout the world, and the kingship will be given to him.

505. When the Messiah is revealed, the people of the world will be in trouble after trouble, and the enemies of Israel will grow. Then, the spirit of the Messiah will awaken on them, which will destroy evil Edom, and which will burn the whole land of Seir by fire. At that time, it is written, “and Israel shall do valiantly.” At that time, the Creator will revive the dead of His nation and will remove the death from them, as it is written, “The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.” “I shall not die, for I shall live,” and it is written, “Saviors will climb up Mount Zion, “and then, as it is written, “The Lord shall be king.”

506. It is written, “You shall come out with joy.” When Israel come out of exile, the Shechina [Divinity] shall come out with them, and with her, they will come out, since “you shall come out with joy,” the Shechina, who is called “joy.” Merriment is the Creator, and merriment is a righteous one, Yesod of ZA. This is the meaning of the words, “Merriment and joy will be in her,” which are Yesod and Malchut.

507. A righteous, Yesod of ZA, is called “merriment.” Since the day when the assembly of Israel fell into exile, the blessings have avoided descending to the world from this righteous one. At the time of redemption, it is written, “With merriment you will draw water from the fountainheads of salvation.” Merriment is a righteous, called “merriment.” The fountainheads of salvation are AVI, HB, from which Yesod draws.

Also, “from the fountainheads of salvation” are Netzah and Hod, from whom Yesod receives. Everyone receives from the deep fountainheads that spring, which are HB. At that time, it is written, “And in that day you will say, ‘O Lord, I will praise You … cheer and sing, dweller of Zion.’”

The whole text revolves around explaining the verse, “I will see Him, but not now; I will behold Him, but not near; a star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel, and crush the edges of Moab, and destroy all the sons of Seth. And Edom shall be a possession; Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies, while Israel does valiantly.”

“I will see Him, but not now.” Not now, but in the near future. “I will behold him, but not near,” at a distant time, of the Messiah King. “A star shall come out of Jacob,” as was said, the Creator is destined to build Jerusalem, and to show one constant star, Malchut, who is in a constant coupling with ZA, who is called Jacob, which glitters in seventy running stars and seventy winds. The number seventy indicates illumination of Hochma, called “eyes.”

The star incorporates right and left. The illumination of the right line in it is called “seventy winds”; the illumination of the left line is called “seventy runners,” since the illumination of the left shines in running and in haste. Seventy running stars and seventy winds shine from him in the middle of the firmament, meaning they are incorporated in Malchut’s middle line, for it is written about it, “A star shall come out of Jacob.” A star is Malchut, and the middle line is from Jacob. Seventy other stars will be commanded and led by it, the seventy ministers of the nations of the world, the left line; they, too, will suckle from this star. It will be shining and blazing seventy days, seven Sefirot HGT NHYM, where each Sefira consists of ten, hence seventy Sefirot, which are called “seventy days.”

The vessels of Malchut are from Bina. For this reason, her own phase is missing in her: Malchut of Malchut. It is missing because it was concealed. On the sixth day, Yesod, on the twenty-fifth day of the sixth month, the star will be evident. Twenty-five days is Malchut, called Kaf-Hey [25 in Gematria]. The sixth month is Yesod.

The illumination of the star will be only in Malchut in Yesod, which is the twenty-fifth of the sixth month, the crown of Yesod, the key, and not in the actual Malchut, the lock, who is unfit for the light due to the force of restriction that rides on her. It will fade on the seventh day, at the end of the seventy days, since seventy days are HGT NHYM, in each of which are ten. At the end of the final ten Sefirot, which are the ten Sefirot of Malchut, whose end is Malchut of Malchut, the lock, the light will be covered and will not shine there since the lock is concealed and does not receive any light.

The particular and the general are equal to each other. As in Malchut’s previous redemptions, Malchut was built by way of three lines, in the future redemption, the order should also begin this way. After Malchut was sweetened in Bina, the right line, there is no more disclosure of illumination of Hochma. Also, the beginning of the illumination of Hochma is on the left line; this is why it was said that on the first day, it will be visible in the city of Rome. That is, the first illumination of Hochma will be to fight against the left without right, which is the illumination of the external ones, who are called the “city of Rome.” At that time, the next star will fight against them, from the middle line, and by the force of the screen of the middle line, it will diminish the GAR of that illumination of the left.

On that day, three upper walls from the city of Rome shall fall, meaning the GAR of the left shall fall, and the governor of that city will die, meaning their minister will die, will be revoked. At that time, the control of Malchut will expand from the middle line to be seen in the world. It is written about that time, “A star shall come out of Jacob.” At the time when it causes the fall of Rome, fierce wars shall awaken in the world to all four directions: wars from the dispute between right and left, as well as wars of the middle line in the screen of Hirik. This is before Malchut, who is called “faith,” is among them.

However, after the star is revealed and strikes the city of Rome, which is left without right, then, in the middle of the world, when that star shines in the middle of the firmament, when the correction of the middle line is established in the world, which is Malchut, and in the firmament, which is ZA, a great king will rise and rule the world, the Messiah King. His spirit will take pride over all the kings, and he will stir up war in two sides, on the right and on the left, as it is written, “And crush the edges of Moab,” both temples, right and left, and will prevail over them.

On the day when the star is covered, at the end of the seventy days, which is Malchut of Malchut, who was concealed throughout the 6,000 years, and the light did not reach her and was covered in her place, the holy land, Malchut, shall be shaken forty-five miles. This implies ZA, HaVaYaH filled with the letters Aleph, which are forty-five in Gematria. The name MA, ZA, will impart holy Gevurot to Malchut, and she will be shaking around the place of the Temple, around Yesod of Malchut.

One underground cave will be revealed, the place of the concealing of the lock, Malchut of Malchut, which have not received any correction thus far. From that cave, the place of concealing, a strong fire will emerge, to burn the world, the lock herself, called “harsh fire,” for until now, wherever it appeared, it burned and consumed all the lights in that place, and then it receives its complete correction.

One high branch shall grow out of that cave, as it is written, “a scepter shall rise out of Israel.” This is the Messiah King, who will then receive his crown from the great correction of the lock, who will rule throughout the world, and he will be given the kingship. He will be given the complete kingship [Malchut], which will have been completed then. This is the Messiah son of Joseph.

But that would still not complete the whole correction. When the Messiah is revealed, the people of the world will be in trouble after trouble, since because he is from the state of the left, his correction is still incomplete, and troubles shall come to the world, and the enemies of Israel will grow. This will continue until the Messiah son of David will be revealed, from the middle line. This is why it was said, “Then, the spirit of the Messiah will awaken on them,” the Messiah son of David, who will destroy wicked Edom, will obliterate the kingdom of Edom, and Israel will do valiantly.
