I Will Wipe Out the Man
209. “And the Lord said, ‘I will wipe out the man whom I have created from over the face of the earth,’” to extract the man above from the Malchut, who is called “earth.” This is so because the whole judgment of the flood was in Malchut, and it cannot be said that only of the man below, while the man above Malchut, who is HaVaYaH of MA, which is Adam [man] in gematria, was not blemished at all. He cannot be excluded altogether.
This is so because there is no such thing as one without the other. When the man below is wiped out, it also blemishes the man above, since if there is no one below to receive the abundance, the abundance departs above, as well.
210. If there were illumination of Hochma that was concealed from everything in Malchut, everything would be corrected as in the beginning, as it is written, “I am wisdom; I dwell with craftiness.” Do not pronounce it Shachanti [I dwell with] but Shchinati [my Shechina], meaning that Hochma says that her Shechina is in Malchut, who is called craftiness, and then there is existence to the world.
Were it not for Hochma [wisdom], the world would not exist, as it is written, “The Lord founded the world with wisdom,” and it is written, “And Noah was found favorable in the eyes of the Lord,” which is illumination of Hochma, called “eyes,” and this is why the world existed through him.
