Give Ear, the Heavens; Hear, Heavens
6. “Give ear, the heavens, and I will speak, and let the earth hear the words of my mouth.” Happy is Moses more than all the prophets of the world. It is written in Yeshayahu, “Hear, heavens, and give ear, earth, for the Lord has spoken.” Yeshayahu, who was farther from the King, it is written, “Hear, heavens.” Moses, who was closer to the King, it is written, “Give ear, the heavens.”
7. At the time when Yeshayahu said “Hear, heavens, and give ear, earth,” several accusers came to break his head. A voice came out and said, “Who is it who wants to make noise?” Finally, one opened and said, “Not me and not mine, but the Lord has spoken, and not I.”
It is written about Moses, “Give ear, the heavens, and I will speak,” I and not another. “I will speak,” without fear.” “And let the earth hear the words of my mouth,” and not from another. Happy is he. “Give ear, the heavens, and I will speak, and let the earth hear.” This implies the high and holy name, the Yod in Haazinu [Give ear], the Hey in “the heavens,” the Vav in “and I will speak,” the Hey in “the earth.”
8. Also between Moses and Yeshayahu, Moses said, “Give ear, the heavens,” with a “the,” which is the upper heavens, the known ones, which are named after the Creator. “And let the earth hear,” the upper earth, the one that is known as the land of the living, Malchut.
It is written about Yeshayahu, “Hear, heavens,” and not “the heavens.” “Give ear, earth,” and not “the heart,” since they are the bottom heaven and earth. Nevertheless, they wanted to punish him until he said that the Creator had spoken and not him. Moses said as it is written, “Give ear, the heavens, and I will speak, and let the earth hear the words of my mouth,” which are ZA and Malchut. He was not afraid and they did not want to punish him.
