Passover, Leaven, and Matza

134. The vessels of the holiday of Passover, when the night of watching governs them, the Shechina, must all be kept, kept from any leaven and from leavened dough. All the foods and drink must be guarded, and one who guards them from leaven and from leavened dough, his body is guarded from the evil inclination below, and his soul is kept above. It is written about her, “No evil will dwell with you,” since his body became holy and his soul, the Holy of Holies. It is written about the evil inclination, “And any foreigner will not eat holy,” and also, “The foreigner who draws near shall be put to death.”

135. Passover is the right arm, Abraham, Hesed, pure silver. One who mixes lead with it, lies in it. Likewise, one who mixes the chaff or any leavened bread with the Matza, it is as though he lies with the king’s coin, with Malchut, who is called Matza. Similarly, one who mixes in his drop, a mixture from forbidden intercourse, or thinks of another woman, it is as though he lies with the king’s seal, Yesod, since one is dependent on the other, as the action below causes a flaw above.
